TAYLOR CEMETERY
GRANGE HALL COMMUNITY
MARION COUNTY, TEXAS
LOCATION: Cemetery is in the Grange Hall Community, about 8 miles
east of Jefferson and about 2 miles north on Hwy 49. Also from
Atlanta, Texas from intersection of Hwy 77 & 43, south on Hwy 43
for 21.4 miles to Smithland intersection of Hwy 43 & 49. Turn
right on Hwy 49 for 5.2 miles. Turn left off Trinity Road for .2
mile to Taylor Cemetery.
Cemetery was read 04-OCT-1998 by Kathryn & Kenneth McAlexander &
Melba Tims.
Cemetery is known to be predominantly white.
Ward Taylor, Sr. donated the land for the cemetery. His son, Dr.
Marion DeKalb Taylor (1818 - 1897) was a surgeon in the Civil War
and a member of the Texas Legislature and the only person to have
served as speaker of the House of Representatives of Texas for
three terms and is known to be buried in this cemetery.
Ward Taylor (parents unknown) was born in South Carolina about
1791 and married Nancy Matthews in Milledgeville, Georgia in 1814
He lived in Butler County, Alabama from 1818 until 1846 when he
moved to Cass (now Marion) County, Texas.

TAYLOR Emmett only date 18-MAY-1860
