NEW COLONY CEMETERY
LINDEN, CASS COUNTY, TEXAS
LOCATION: Cemetery is located 3 miles from Linden on Hwy 59 toward
Atlanta, TX, behind the New Colony Baptist Church.
The church was organized in 1891 in a log school house and named
New Colony by Mrs. J. T. Latham. Charter members were: Mr. & Mrs
John S. Carwile, Mr. & Mrs. E. W. Elgins, Mr. & Mrs. Hamp
Washington, Mr. & Mrs. R. W. Crowson, Mr. & Mrs. W. W. Martin and
Mr. & Mrs. Z. H. Carwile. Bro J. G. Williams was the first pastor
Mr. & Mrs. Z. H. Carwile deeded three acres for a permanent church
and the first service was held September 9, 1904. This building
was destroyed by a cyclone on May 13, 1908. A second building was
rebuilt with the materials from the first church and opened that
same summer.

This cemetery is know to be predominantly white.
