JOHN ROBIN HEARD CEMETERY
ALSO KNOW AS RANEY OR HENDERSON CEMETERY
DOUGLASSVILLE, CASS COUNTY{ TEXAS
LOCATION: From Douglassville, take Hwy 77 west, travel approx, 8 miles, turn south (left) onto CR 2345, travel approx, 3 miles. Cemetery is on the left about 500 yds off road & up a grassy dirt road. It is in a wooded area and is fenced.
Land for this one-acre family cemetery was donated by John Robin Heard (1794 - 1866) who came to Texas in 1853 and founded the nearby town of Cussetta. First burial occurred in 1861 with the death of Cornelius Floyd (b in 1859), Heard’s grandson. The 23 graves include those of Heard and his second wife, Mary HOPKINS
Heard (1806 - 1863). The fence surrounding the cemetery was provided by another of Heard's grandsons, W. Q. Henderson (1858- 1934). Decendants formed a cemetery association in 1974 and organized a perpetual-care trust fund and had the Historical Marker placed in 1976. The Historical Marker is on Hwy 77, also one at the grave of Robin Heard.
